Quantum introduced a new generation of LTO-5

Quantum Corp. , A leading global specialist in backup, recovery, and archival data storage, today announced the availability of the industry's first products based on the fifth generation of the standard Linear Tape-Open (LTO). This means full access autoloaders, tape drives and LTO-5 and partial access to technology LTO-5 tape libraries, Quantum's Scalar (R), which is part of the initial adaptation podrebiteley. Today's announcement further strengthens the position Quantum as a leading supplier of a wide range of tape and disk solutions to meet the various needs in the field of storage, protection and access to data.

New tape drives LTO-5 is almost double the capacity and increase data transfer rate of 15 % compared with LTO-4 technology, and have the means to partition. These innovations, along with built-in encryption to increase the role of tape in a long-term storage, archiving and disaster recovery, as well as a component of a hierarchical storage strategy.

Quantum LTO Ultrium cartridges have a capacity of up to five 3Tb and data transfer rates up to 280 Megabytes per second ( with 2:1 compression), allowing you to significantly reduce the number of tapes and data transfer time. With built- in media drive 256- bit AES encryption technology and WORM, tape Quantum's LTO Ultrium 5 to meet the stringent requirements for safety and compatibility.

The new tool, presented in the technology of LTO-5 is the ability to split the carrier LTO-5 into sections, which provides improved control over the files and index data. This facility allows applications to index data on the tape, simplifying access to data and their archiving to tape. In addition, the technology of LTO-5 provides read and write to LTO-4 cartridges, and read with LTO- 3, which protects the customer's investment, and simplifies data migration projects.
